OBERHAUSEN

Oberhausen
Cradle of the Ruhr industry - Heart of the Ruhr area
Structural change to witness and touch.
220,000 inhabitants and 28 million visitors annually, numbers rising.
The end of the steel aera and its
great steelworks, the end of coal mining and the relocation of the heavy industries began in this city, path-breaking for the whole region, initiating a process of re-configuration and re-orientation of former industrial premises and areas to make best use of resources and create sustainable new jobs at the same time.
Production evolved into trade, coal mining was gradually replaced by the New Economy, former industrial premises were changed into parks and industrial ruins to tourist attractions.
Today Oberhausen is one of the top ten cities for short trips.
Main attraction, without any doubt, is of course Europe's biggest shopping mall, the “CentrO”, but it could not be as famous as it is without its complementary environment and surroundings.
The so-called “Neue Mitte” - of which the shopping mall “CentrO” is only one part of – is a vast area being famous for a number of other attractions as well.
There is the Promenade, a pedestrian precinct placed along a man-made river, with about 30 different restaurants and an inviting terrace which entices you to take a seat and relax.
The night life starts in the numerous pubs, bars, clubs and discotheques.
And, by the way, here you will find the Gasometer with a lot of frequently changing and spectacular exhibitions.
The Metronom Theater - under guidance of Stage Entertainment, guarantees every true fan of musicals a first class experience.
The König Pilsener Arena - entertainment at its best.
Sealife Oberhausen - the biggest of its kind in Germany – close encounters with marine dwellers.
The Modellbahnwelt Oberhausen – a place for real enthusiasts of model railways.
Only very few kilometers away- the former coal mine Zeche Zollverein, today a certified world culture heritage - how it was and never will be again
Movie World and the Alpine Center in Bottrop- 20 minutes distance
Middle Ages in Hattingen and Langenberg – seemingly unlimited forests and lakes
The Rhineland Museum of the Industry (Rheinisches Industriemuseum) and the public park Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord.
And finally, equally important:
30 km to the Messe Düsseldorf and Düsseldorf airport
10 km to the Messe Essen
562 km to Berlin
